About the show

Two friends. Two businesses. One honest conversation.

Our Entrepreneurial Lives started as the kind of conversation you have with the friend who actually gets it, the one who can hold space for the wins, the self-doubt, and all the other messy problems all in the same breath.

Founder of Build it Better Communications

I never thought I would be an entrepreneur. My path to building my agency was unexpected and non-traditional. I spent years serving in ministry as a pastor, coach, and organizational leader. What I didn't expect, when I eventually stepped into the entrepreneurial world, was how directly that experience would translate to what I do today.

Throughout my ministry, I learned to approach communication as storytelling, to find common ground, and to craft messages that land personally, not just intellectually. I was an integrator, helping people close the gap between what they believed and how they lived. And I was an implementor, helping leaders design discipleship pathways, intentional journeys that met people where they were and moved them forward with care and clarity.

These roles directly relate to how I help coaches and consultants today: to get clear with their messaging, design the same kind of pathways for their businesses, (the journey that takes someone from first discovering them to trusting them enough to invest, to the transformation they want), and to integrate their vision, framework, and expertise into every aspect of their business.

I also know what burnout feels like, from both personal experience and in watching leader after leader give everything to their calling with nothing left for themselves. That's one of the reasons I wanted to have a podcast. As business owners we need to build for growth and create space and margin for everything else that matters. And this podcast is a space to have candid conversations about what it's like trying to build and run a business that you love and that allows you to be the best version of yourself.

Hi! I'm Erica Bollinger

Founder of The Mustard Seed Agency

I've been selling and marketing products since before I understood what either of those things meant! Girl Scout cookies, lemonade stands, mistletoe at Christmas, whatever I could pitch. What looked like a kid's hustle has turned out to be a through line in my career.

After college I moved to Dallas where I spent time at The Dallas Morning News and WFAA-TV working in a number of roles, including sales and cause-marketing. It was so rewarding to create campaigns and community partnerships that connected brands to local causes. Eventually, I moved back to Oklahoma where I worked for The Oklahoman and Griffin Communications. At Griffin, I served as Statewide Director of Digital Sales, where I helped create the first digital sales team for KWTV News 9 and KOTV News On 6. Today I build the same kind of systems for small businesses: websites, automations, and marketing engines that work.

I also know what it's like to bet on something small. In 2013, I walked away from a steady corporate career to start my own business and spend more time with my son. When I was searching for a name, the mustard seed parable from the Bible kept coming to mind: "Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains" (Matthew 17:20). I also loved the fact that the mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds in the world, yet it grows into one of the largest plants.

It serves as more than just the inspiration behind my business name. It's the whole premise. The Mustard Seed Agency exists for business owners who are building something meaningful, even if they're still growing into it.

Who it's for

For the founder who wants the whole picture.

If you're building something, a service business, a product company, a personal brand, and you want a podcast that talks about the spreadsheet and the slump on the same day, you're in the right place.
